In this workshop, John will cover how to:

  • Use basic EQ techniques to enhance and correct your recordings.
  • De-ess, de-click, and remove background noise in real-time using the Repair Assistant tool that comes with iZotope RX Elements (not required but HIGHLY encouraged to purchase prior to attending).
  • Use the stock plugins within Adobe Audition to enhance the quality of your recordings.
  • Use the free Kilohearts Essential FX Bundle for enhancing your recordings and vocal sound design.
  • Identify potential issues in your recording setup and how to overcome common challenges like reflections (reverb), hum/analog noise, background noise.
  • Optimize your recording space with basic tips for the at-home voice actor.
  • Identify what a "click" is and other undesirable noises that degrade the quality of your recording.

 

There will be a dedicated time for Q&A after the presentation. If you would like John to provide audition feedback in front of others, please inform him before attending this workshop via email. Otherwise, you will receive detailed feedback 2 - 3 business days after the workshop.


You will require the following plugins if you would like to follow along during the presentation:

  1. iZotope RX 10 Elements or above (as long as you have the Repair Assistant tool)
  2. Kilohearts Essential FX Bundle (FREE download)

 

You must have some prior knowledge of installing plugins and using Adobe Audition. You're not expected to be a wizard, however. You're also expected to have an active subscription as well.

Learn how to effectively use EQ, de-noising, de-clicking, de-essing, compression, and noise gate plugins to polish your auditions and maximize booking potential.

John is a passionate audio engineer, casting director, and studio director with over 14 years of experience in audio production. He’s worked on games like Persona 3 Reload, Octopath Traveler II, Phantasy Star Online II: New Genesis, and Honkai: Star Rail.
